3D works: object and body exploring the ephemeral qualities of material and form.

Body Stories : Things Fall Apart

These assemblages suggest the internal workings of the body: fluids, bone, muscle and seeks to imply the fragility and temporal nature of our bodies and how our bodies are also transformed by the force of internal and external influences.

The Lamb : Things Fall Apart

What’s Left Behind seeks to express the process of transformation through decay and renewal. I have been experimenting through sculptural forms and materials to suggest the temporal, fragile and impermanent nature of life. Salt, clays, organic material, steel and natural rubber in dialogue articulate a physical transformation caused by the interplay of time and elemental forces.

Salt as a material to cast with is incredibly responsive to surrounding environments. Emphasising the process of change I have combined the salt with iron assisting the corrosion process. The use of salt historically, culturally and religiously in acts of purification of evil informs the choice of this material.

The symbol of the sacrificial lamb seeks to address the disowned responsibility humans have to the earth and its’ sentient beings. The growing salinity of the land, as the drought continues, mirrors our mortality and constant process of waste and growth.

Sugar Society : Things Fall Apart

Ice is melting, tides are rising, the sun will certainly keep on shining… as undrinkable water submerges the spaces once constructed and possessed by humans… what are we going to do? Can we prevent it?

Sugar Society aims to draw attention to the way that our taste for superfluous conveniences is leading to the destruction of our habitat.

This project openly utilises modes of production with negative environmental impacts to highlight the links between our everyday actions and their ugly climatic consequences.

We invite you take part in this event. Can you save our sugar society? What can be done with the available materials to prevent the ice melting and the city dissolving? Don’t just stand there, sugar society needs your help!

Perhaps, in the end, the sugar society is doomed. But what about the rest of us? Are speed and convenience really so important? Is time so precious? Can we sacrifice a little sweetness now to savour our future?
